By Land and by Sea:

Kayaking and Hiking the Point Reyes National Seashore
October 13-17th, 2010

In The Flow: The Details
The ‘Terrain’
Our base will be in Inverness, California, located in the heart of the Point Reyes National Seashore region . This area is known for its variety of hiking trails, estuaries, and kayaking. Located just 50 miles north of San Francisco, the Point Reyes Seashore offers a variety of weather, from the hot sun of West Marin to the cool fog and winds of the Pacific coast.

Arrival and Departure Times
Plan to arrive no later than 5 pm on Wednesday October 13th. We will have an orientation meeting and a short hike around our guest lodge on that first day. We will end no later than 3 pm Sunday October 17th. Please plan your flight departure time out of San Francisco airport no earlier than 6 pm on Sunday.

The Hikes
There will be two official hike days. Our first hike will be the MT. WITTENBERG LOOP A steep 400 meter (1300 feet) climb to the highest point in the park (426 m / 1407 ft), with views of the Seashore and Olema Valley. The loop passes through a mixed Douglas fir and oak forest and several open meadows. Our second hike will be the DIVIDE MEADOW via BEAR VALLEY TRAIL (5.1 km / 3.2 mi.)
A casual stroll through mixed Douglas fir forest and along Bear Valley Creek to an open grassy meadow. Several benches along the way offer great resting spots in the shade, and Divide Meadow is a nice place to picnic in the sun. We have set up our hikes to support all levels of hiking ability. More extensive information on the rides is in our pre-departure packet for registered participants.

The Kayaking Trips
Our half day kayak will be an introductory paddle at White Gulch & Hogg Island on TomalesBay that explores the coastline, observing the Tule Elk and other wild life. For our full day we will kayak into the heart of one of the last pristine estuaries on the California coast.  Drakes Estero, protected by the Point Reyes National Seashore, is a 160-acre tidal salt marsh which supports highly diverse plant and animal life.

The Accommodations
The INVERNESS VALLEY INN

The Daily Routine

  • Each day will start with an optional meditation (we do a simple guided meditation process to support you in exploring this if you’re new to meditation).
  • After a hearty breakfast, we will have a morning group session. These facilitated sessions will support and challenge you to look at you life from a different perspective.
  • Each day after our morning group session we will have a hike or kayaking trip of approximately 2-3.5 hours .
  • Each hike/kayak excursion will correlate with the material and focus of the day.
  • Each day a second group session will precede dinner.
  • Dinner is all about fun and food and connection…no exceptions.
